Born and raised here
I grew up in Westerly and I’ve lived here for 46 years. Like a lot of kids in this town, I got my start in the summer economy. I worked at Shelter Harbor, the Misquamicut Club and [Three Fish], and I learned construction working for local contractors, including my father.
02
Building Westerly, one house at a time
In 1999 I opened my own general contracting business. In 2019 we re-incorporated as Stanton & Stanton. For more than 25 years I’ve built and renovated homes, mostly in Watch Hill. If you’ve been down to the Watch Hill Yacht Club, you’ve seen my work. I built the cabanas there in the winter of 2009–2010.
Running a business teaches you a few things fast. You make payroll. You stick to a budget. You do the job right, because your name is on it.
03
The night that changed things
A few years ago I drove past a house near my neighborhood and saw a shed on fire. I stopped, alerted the homeowner, and did everything I could to keep the fire from reaching the house until the fire department arrived.
Afterward, I looked into joining the volunteer fire department at Dunn’s Corners. But I knew there was another way I could serve. I joined the Westerly Finance Board.
04
What I found on the Finance Board
On the Finance Board I learned to read a budget line by line. That’s how I found $2.7 million that had been sitting in the school system’s capital budgets from past years. That’s real money that belongs to Westerly taxpayers.
If that's happening in one town budget, imagine what's in a state budget of more than $14 billion. That's why I'm running.
05
Why State Rep
My friend encouraged me to run for this seat and helped me get started. I’m running as a Republican, but I’m a common-sense, constitutional conservative who puts people over party. I’ll work with anyone who wants to lower costs for Westerly families.
06
When I’m not working
You’ll find me with my family and my three dogs, out in my garden, or outside doing something: paddleboarding, hiking, climbing, skiing. I love calling Westerly home, and I want to help keep it a place people can afford to live.
A strong voice for Westerly
Westerly deserves a strong voice at the State House. I'll fight for the people, places and priorities that matter here at home: lower costs for working families, our coastline and open spaces, and small businesses that keep this town running. I'll show up, I'll do the homework, and I'll answer to you.
